General Information
The city of Cancun is young, as are most of its permanent and temporary inhabitants. It was just a small sand barrier some 35 years ago when the plan began to develop it into the vacation haven of the 21st century. Today, Cancun consists of a medium-sized coastal city and a long, thin island connected to the mainland through bridges at its north and south ends. It features world-class resorts, hotels, clubs, and malls. It offers something for everyone, from an all-day fun party beach to an isolated, tranquil island. Here you'll find everything, from ultra chic to funky laidback, from R&B to techno, from tacos and cheeseburgers to fancy, mainstream standards. All tastes are welcomed and catered to in this paradise. No wonder this is Mexico's most popular resort.
The great and gorgeous beaches of white sand caressed by warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea stand out as the hottest spots in town.
Cancun Centro (downtown) offers an alternative to all the glitz and hype of the Hotel Zone with some great restaurants, bars, and shopping arcades. The atmosphere becomes more family-friendly as all the people who make this paradise work live here.

Transportation
From Cancun International Airport take the main exit road and enter the Hotel Zone at Kukulcan Boulevard. Proceed straight until kilometer marker 17 and turn right into the resort. This is an approximately 15-minute drive. There is also a public transit bus system, servicing the hotel zone with frequent stops and buses. Distance from hotel: 10 km. Drive time: 15 min.
Airport
Cancun International Airport is located in Cancun, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. In 2009, Cancun airport handled 11,174,908 passengers, a moderate decrease from 12,646,451 in 2008, partly due to the 2009 flu pandemic and the financial crisis of 2007-2010. The airport has been expanding, as it has become one of the most important international airports in the country. Four million visitors arrive each year in an average of 190 flights daily.
Taxis
The taxi system in Cancun is about as convenient as the bus system. Every second car on the road is a taxi, and you find groups of them parked around hotels and high-traffic areas. One piece of advice you will always hear is: agree on the fare before you get in the cab. Fares to different parts of Cancun are posted outside the hotels.
Weather
Cancun weather boasts only 35 days a year where the maximum temperature doesn't hit 80F and with a third of the year over 90F Mexico is hot! You are virtually guaranteed 80 degrees any time from April right through to the end of October.
Electricity
The electricity standard is 110 volt AC, the same as in the US and Canada. Three prong outlets are not readily available so an adaptor is a good idea. Electrical stores in Cancun have them in stock. The larger hotels have converters for most 220-volt devices. Mexico does not use a ground wire in its electrical wiring so power surges are a common problem. If you plan to use a laptop computer, you should invest in a surge protector sold in Mexican electronic stores.
