ISHA 2012 Awards
The International Society for Hip Arthroscopy Awards Program is committed to recognizing and honoring young researchers whose work has contributed to better understanding and communication within the field of Hip Arthroscopy.
Two Awards are being offered at the 2012 ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, the ISHA Trainee Basic Research Award and the Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in Clinical Research Award. Applicants should currently be orthopaedic trainees, residents or fellows OR have completed their training after June 2012. No applicant should have held a consultant orthopaedic surgeon post (locum, substantive or honorary) prior to June 30, 2011. Applicants, please note: submissions are limited to one submission per individual. All submissions will be automatically considered for both the ISHA Trainee Basic Research Award and the Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in Clinical Research Award. To be considered for the ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting Awards, applications must be submitted before July 23, 2012.
2012 ISHA Trainee Basic Research Award
The ISHA Trainee Basic Research Award was created with the intention to stimulate and reward younger researchers who contribute high-quality data and presentations. Thus, residents and fellows, with a study related to hip arthroscopy are encouraged to apply for this award. Judged by an ISHA-selected panel, the 2012 Trainee Basic Research Award will be awarded to the trainee who delivers the best presentation during the Annual Scientific Meeting. Finalists for the prize will be selected based on their abstract submission and will be invited to present during the scientific session on Friday, September 28, 2012. A monetary prize of $750 will be awarded at the 2012 ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting.
Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in Clinical Research Award
The Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in Clinical Research Award was created with the intention to stimulate and reward younger researchers who contribute high-quality data and presentations. Judged by an ISHA-selected panel, the Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in Clinical Research Award will be awarded to the trainee who delivers the best presentation during the Annual Scientific Meeting. Finalists for the prize will be selected based on their abstract submission and will be invited to present during the scientific session on Friday, September 28, 2012. A monetary prize of $750 will be awarded at the 2012 ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting.
Criteria for entry
- Submissions and Presentations must be in the English language.
- Applicants should currently be orthopaedic trainees, residents or fellows OR have completed their training after June 2012. No applicant should have held a consultant orthopaedic surgeon post (locum, substantive or honorary) prior to June 30, 2011.
- Applicants should have been an active author or co-author of the work presented and has obtained the permission of all co-authors to compete for this prize.
- Finalists will be expected to register for the ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting 2012
- Presenter must be the trainee applicant
Application Requirements
To apply for
the ISHA Annual Scientific Meeting Awards, applicants must submit an abstract
and supporting material before July 23, 2012.

- Select the abstract you wish to apply for the Awards
- Upload applicant's full curriculum vitae (PDF)
- Upload a signed letter (PDF) from the applicant's Director of Training (or equivalent)
stating that the applicant is a part of a recognized orthopaedic training
program on the day of the presentation

Once the application is submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the Award applicant.

Applicants may only submit one abstract to be considered for both Awards.

Abstracts submitted to the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting Awards which are not
selected as finalists will be considered for inclusion in the Annual Meeting
program.

Finalists for the Trainee Presentation Prize will be advised by August 1, 2012 and
full presentation details will be provided at that time.
Award Presentation
Six Finalists will be chosen to present during the scientific
session at the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts on
September 28, 2012. Finalists will
be invited to give a 7 minute presentation judged by an ISHA-selected panel
based on the following five criteria:
- Originality of research presented (30 points)
- Quality of oratory (30 points)
- Quality of audiovisual aids (20 points)
- Time-keeping (10 points)
- Question-handling (10 points)
Of the six finalists, one winner for the ISHA Trainee Basic
Research Award and the Richard Villar Trainee Excellence in
Clinical Research Award will be chosen.
